Why we went…
Our flight from Nha Trang, Vietnam to LAX was passing through Seoul. We had not been to Korea so decided to spend 24 hours in this amazing city.
How we got there…
We flew Viet Jet to Seoul, and then Seoul to LAX was an easy 10 hour flight.
Where we stayed…
Grand Hyatt Incheon – Definitely not the hotel we would stay in if we were visiting Seoul for longer, but this airport hotel worked really well for our purposes. We arrived very late into Korea and had a short cab ride to this hotel. The front desk is open at all hours to check in weary travelers. The rooms were clean, and we were able to leave our suitcases at the front desk while we explored the city the next day.
What we did…
Gyeongbokgung Palace – A great spot to start the day. We loved exploring this beautiful palace. The colors, architecture and surrounding gardens were spectacular.

Hanok Traditional Korean Village – Located adjacent to the palace, this is such a beautiful neighborhood to meander through.

Myeongdong Shopping Street – Venturing to this part of town for a quick walk around provided nice juxtaposition to the more historical and traditional temple and hanok village. The kids like shopping in some of the fun stores and trying some tasty treats along the way.

We also enjoyed exploring the neighborhood of Itaewon and trying some top notch coffee (Champ Coffee Roasters) a local breweries (Magpie) and some fun drinks for the kids.

Where we ate…
Maple Tree House, Itaewon – The day in Seoul wouldn’t be complete without Korean BBQ. We would love to explore the food scene more, but this definitely satisfied our craving for some good barbeque. Plus, the neighborhood of Itaewon was fun to explore after we filled our bellies.
