Why we went…
2025/2026 had a very slow start to the ski season in the western United States and Canada. We had a trip booked to Red Mountain Resort in Rossland British Columbia, but there wasn’t enough snow to safely ensure that we would be able to ski. We canceled that trip and pivoted to Europe. Europe didn’t have a ton of snow, but there was enough to ski and have fun. We found four business class points tickets to Munich on Lufthansa and found one of the last remaining rooms in an Icon ski resort town and took the leap. I am so glad we did!
How we got to Ischgl…
We flew into Munich, and hired the Daytrip car service to take us to and from Ischgl. We were even able to stop by Neuschwanstein castle on the way. The drive is about 3 hours. It is easy and spectacularly beautiful.
Where we stayed in Ischgl…
Hotel Madlein – This hotel is fantastic for a luxury ski holiday. The location to the slopes is ideal. There is a tunnel with escalators that takes you from the hotel directly to the gondola. The hotel has a ski rental shop and boot room that is very convenient. The boot warmers in the boot room are a nice touch. The pool, hot tub and sauna are fantastic after a long day on the slopes. The rooms are nice and clean and have nice closets to store all your ski wear. I highly recommend the half room and board. The breakfast buffet and 4 course dinners are fantastic and very convenient.

What we did in Ischgl…
We skied! Here are the things we loved about Ischgl.
The Town – Its charming and very walkable. There are great shops if you need anything for skiing and good restaurants for lunch.

The Après – We enjoyed walking back into town after enjoying the hot tub for a drink or hot chocolate and one of the après bars. The vibe is so much fun.

Very very long intermediate and advanced intermediate runs – I felt like every run was at least 2 miles long. The mountain is huge. Ischgl is great if you are an intermediate skier who can do some more advanced runs as well. There are beginner runs, but you won’t be able to freely explore most of the mountain without getting caught on something too difficult. Our family was at the perfect spot skill wise to enjoy this giant mountain.

Skiing to a different country – One of the highlights of Ischgl for us was skiing over to the Swiss resort of Sauman. Switzerland was a new country for three out of the four of us. The kids loved skiing to a new country.

The level of skiing – Because the overall mountain is quite advanced and relatively steep, the level of skiing on most runs was very high which made us feel quite comfortable and safe.
